Description: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). This medical illustration series pictures the formation of deep vein thrombosis (blood clots) in the body. Shown are the following: 1. A male body and major veins in the lower extremities, inferior vena cava, heart and lungs, 2. Three views through a typical vein show the formation of a thrombus and embolus, 3. Finally, a single view of the abdomen reveals placement of a Greenfield filter in the inferior vena cava to stop clots from reaching the heart and lungs.
